Fans of theTVshowLetterkennywere excited to hear that the popular Canadian sitcom would be getting a spinoff this year.Shoresyfollows aragtag hockey teamas they attempt to become champions. However, did you know the cast includes some actual NHL players?
The story of ‘Letterkenny’ spinoff ‘Shoresy’
Shoresyfollows the character of Shore (known as Shoresy), a fan favorite fromLetterkenny.Letterkennybegan as a YouTube series but got picked up by Canadian network Crave in 2015. An eleventh season drops onHulu, which acquired the U.S. distribution rights to the show.
Jared Keeso created both shows. He also plays the part of Shoresy. The character is a hockey player with a dirty mouth who plays for the Letterkenny Shamrocks hockey team. His face is typically not shown; audiences see him from behind in the shower, wearing a tinted face shield on his helmet, or heard from inside a bathroom stall.
Shoresy left the fictional town of Letterkenny at the end of season 10, which aired in 2021. The Sudbury Bulldogs then recruited him.Shoresysees him make a bet that the losing hockey team will never lose again if he’s given the chance to coach. The show follows him and the rest of the team as they attempt to become winners.
The real-life NHL players starring in ‘Shoresy’
With a show centered around hockey, it’s no surprise that someNHLplayers were tapped to star in the show. Brothers Brandon and Jordan Nolan, who have since retired from their professional hockey careers, will play Jim #2 and Jim #3, respectively.
“It’s just crazy … I was just, like, this can’t be real. Like, I’m a hockey player, I’m not an actor. I’m like, ‘what the heck would they want us for?'” Brandon Nolan toldNHL.com. “[I’m] just honored to be a part of it.”
Jim #1 is also played by an ex-hockey pro. Jon “Nasty” Mirasty spent time in the minor leagues, playing for the United Hockey League’s Danbury Trashers. Jonathan-Ismael Diaby, a former Nashville Predators draft pick, stars as a player named Dolo.
Terry Ryan, who played just eight games in the NHL before suffering a career-ending injury, will use his hockey and acting skills on the show. After leaving the world of hockey, Ryan launched an acting career. His role as Ted Hitchco*ck onShoresyis his latest acting gig.
“It’s [a] camaraderie. In the show, there’s people in the room telling stories and then playing tunes and chirping and then as soon as they say, ‘Cut,’ we put on our own tunes, tell our own stories, and start chirping,” Ryan shared. “It’s wild how it all went down…I hate to overuse the word surreal but that’s exactly what it is.”
How the NHL stars are contributing their knowledge to ‘Shoresy’
The show puts their former-hockey-stars-turned-actors’ experience to good use, from opinions on playing to characterizations. All the players wear their former numbers on their jerseys for the show.
“We all played a little bit of pro hockey, so I think they were kind of just happy with what they saw and asked for input,'” Jordan Nolan said. “I think they kind of leaned on us a little bit to make it more realistic.”
Shoresypremiered on Canadian channel Crave in May 2022 and dropped on Hulu for American fans later that month. Fans ofLetterkennylove the new show and are excited to see some formerNHLstars bring a little authenticity to the hockey-centered sitcom.
Along with his older brother Brandon Nolan [a former member of the Carolina Hurricanes] and Terry Ryan [the Montreal Canadiens first round draft pick in 1995], Jordan Nolan will be lacing up his skates as part of the fictional Sudbury Bulldogs in "Shoresy," a new Hulu television series hitting the United States on ...
One of the stars of the hit Canadian sitcom Shoresy is looking forward to filming the second season in the coming months. Jon Mirasty, a former professional hockey player from Flying Dust First Nation, plays Jim #1 on the popular Letterkenny spinoff.
Shoresy is described as a comedy spinoff of Letterkenny, in which main character Shoresy joins the Sudbury Bulldogs, a struggling senior team in Northern Ontario, and embarks on a mission to "never lose again." The first season premiered on May 13, 2022. A second season was announced January 17.
Mirasty's character is focused on two other characters: Jim #2 and Jim #3. They're played by former hockey players and brothers Brandon and Jordan Nolan. “The three Jim's…we didn't have a lot to say but I know it's going to grow more and more,” he added.
Jared Keeso, who plays the lead character in the Canadian comedy series Letterkenny, is not a professional hockey player. However, he did grow up playing the sport and is a big fan of the game. In the show, Keeso's character, Wayne, is the captain of the Letterkenny hockey team.
When it comes to twins, most share a lot of personality traits but more often than not they're opposite overall. The same can be said of Wayne and Shoresy. Both are quick-witted, tough as nails, and both are leaders in their own way.
Ultimately, Wayne and Shoresy only met once since they were both played by Jared Keeso. To maintain the illusion that they were two separate characters, Shoresy's face was kept hidden during his entire run on Letterkenny. It wasn't revealed until his spinoff series started.

Keilani Elizabeth Rose is a quadruple threat. The actor, dancer, filmmaker and DJ lives between Vancouver and Los Angeles, but recently she's spent a lot of time in Sudbury, Ontario filming the Crave original Shoresy, the sequel to Canadian cult-favourite Letterkenny.
Wayne. Wayne (Jared Keeso) is the leader of the "Hicks", regarded as "toughest guy in Letterkenny." Wayne is protective of his sister and his best friends Daryl and Squirrelly Dan.
Shoresy, the spinoff from the popular TV series Letterkenny, is getting a second season. Like Letterkenny, Shoresy is about hockey and is also filmed in Sudbury.
The label reads Gus N' Bru in stylized letters and drawings of two terriers, presumably the eponymous dogs. Official merchandise featuring the label, as well as promotional copy for the May 2018 "pup-up" shop in Toronto, names it Gus N' Bruno. "Gus" is known to be the real-life dog of Jared Keeso, a pit bull mix.
First there was Angie (who's got a new beau), then Tanis. Unfortunately, Tanis became pregnant with Wayne's kid, which was complicated even more by the fact that Wayne was seeing Rosie. He was in a long distance relationship with Marie-Fred for a while, but that only lead to more heartbreak.
Production. The series is filmed in Sudbury, Canada. Letterkenny is the first original series commissioned by Crave, and premiered on that platform on February 7, 2016.
Wayne. As the self-proclaimed toughest guy in Letterkenny, it's no surprise to see Wayne atop this list. He's repeatedly demonstrated that he's both willing and able to take down any challengers to his crown. To date, Wayne has ended all his fights with his hand raised.
Speaking with thick Canadian accents, the most noticeable feature of the hick dialect is the collection of words and phrases they use often. Wayne, arguably the main character, might refer to a person he sees as soft as “10-ply,” which is not something anyone actually says but it makes sense if you think about it.
(No, he's not there as Glen, but the always great Jacob Tierney does make an appearance.) On one hand, it seems wrong to compare Shoresy to Letterkenny. Yes, they are within the same universe, and yes, Keeso created both series.
"Shoresy" is a nickname the hockey players give him. His actual surname is "Shore," as seen on his jerseys, and as mentioned in TSN coverage of the National Senior Hockey Championship. Like Reilly and Jonesy, his first name has never been given.
Starting with the fact that the shows have the same creative team behind them, Shoresy and Letterkenny are also similar in that they're both led by the immensely talented Jared Keeso. Keeso is not only the creator of both shows but also the star of both and the titular character in Shoresy.
It's safe to say that the decision to not reveal his identity in the sitcom only helps to add to the titular character's lore. The intentional obfuscation of the character's face also enables the sitcom to make recurring jokes revolving around Shoresy's identity.
Filmed in Sudbury, Shoresy stars Jared Keeso, who also helms another popular New Metric production that is also filmed in Sudbury, Letterkenny. Shoresy also features a host of local performers.
Ferda. A recurring slogan of Reilly and Jonesy, two hockey-playing best friends rarely ever seen apart, "ferda" is an abbreviated form of "for the boys." It is one of many Letterkenny hockey slang terms that contribute to Letterkenny being one of the most hilarious Canadian comedy series.
In the first season he doesn't have teeth, and he's very open that he has this condition. But in the second season he has teeth and starts talking about his teeth clicking. So it looks like he got prosthodontics,'' observes Feldman, using a dental term for artificial teeth.
In The Jonathan Ross Show, Matarazzo revealed that he does not have collarbones and teeth because of his CCD. “I do not have any. These are fake, right here,” he said, pointing to his dentures. The actor also shared how his character inspired people with CCD to come out of their shells little by little.
Like a perfectly timed holiday present, Letterkenny season 12 will begin December 25th, 2023, but what will come of our favorite hicks after that bout of time passes, you might ask?
Since Grade 13 in Ontario was phased out by 2003, and as Wayne may be presumed not to have had any scholastic or disciplinary problems causing him to be held back, this would make Wayne 23 or 24 at the oldest at the start of the series.
Sees the foul-mouthed, chirp-serving, mother-loving, fan favorite character, Shoresy, join a senior AAA hockey team in Sudbury on a quest to never lose again.
Jared Keeso and Jacob Tierney said that approximately 95% of the dialog between Letterkenny hockey players is scripted. Their best lines are a collection of their best lines in The Art of the Perfect Chirp.
Hulu's 'Letterkenny' Spinoff 'Shoresy' Renewed for Season 2
Hulu announced “Shoresy,” a spin-off of the Canadian sitcom “Letterkenny,” will return exclusively to the streaming service for a six-episode second season. Season 1 of the comedy, also a six-episode endeavor, debuted on Hulu in May 2022.
Wayne Douglas Gretzky CC (/ˈɡrɛtski/ GRET-skee; born January 26, 1961) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and former head coach. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for four teams from 1979 to 1999.
Born in Brantford, Ontario in 1961, Wayne Gretzky learned to skate on a rink his father Walter built in the family's backyard. Practicing for hours on end, it was here that a young Gretzky developed the skating, shooting and stickhandling techniques that appeared instinctive to so many over the course of his career.
Muffin: a shot that should have been stopped after wavering back and forth in the air all the way to the net. Pillows: the goaltender's leg pads. Plumber: maybe not the best player on the team, but a hard working player who does the dirty work in the corners.
