Small Ring Size for Engagement Rings and Wedding Rings (2024)

What do jewellers consider a small ring size?

For anyone with a small ring size, finding the perfect engagement ring or wedding ring to fit can be a struggle. In fact, many jewellers work with a fairly narrow span of finger sizes. In this way, many jewellers accommodate average finger sizes rather than help buyers with unusually small or large hands.

For this reason, we opened up available sizes to accommodate requests for very small fingers. Sometimes for petite hands. At other times, for children’s rings.

A guide to tiny, average and large fingers.

To gauge what sizes represent small fingers, average fingers and large finger sizes, the following rule of thumb applies.

Very small finger sizes run from approximately UK size E (US 2.5) to UK size H (US 4)

Small ring sizes run from approximately UK size I (US 4.5) to UK size K (US 5.5).

Average ring sizes run from approximately UK size L (US 6) to UK N (US 6.75)

Our most popular finger size tends to be the popular size L for engagement rings and wedding rings, whilst many jewellers consider size N to be average. Smaller than J or K, and you are moving towards a small finger size.

Small sizes for women.

When you look at a jeweller’s size stick in the UK, ‘A’ appears as the smallest reading. However, this size relates to a very young child. In fact, we never create rings quite this small.

From experience, our smallest finger size produced for an engagement ring or wedding ring was size’E’ which is pretty tiny as the image below shows.

Why do some women have such small finger sizes?

This is no different from the build. Some women have petite finger sizes, whilst others have larger sizes. Tall, slim women sometimes have more slender, skinny fingers. This is just a matter of personal build. Even with very tiny fingers, some clients have large knuckles, which can cause problems with a perfect-fitting ring.

What do you do if your chosen design is not available in a small finger size?

Our showroom sample ring designs, and our website designs rarely accommodate every size possible. For this reason, we provide a bespoke design service to create any of our designs in any size required.

Some styles require re-modelling to ensure proportions match the not just the size, but also the style of the jewellery design. Many of our bespoke designs evolve using CAD design used to re-model existing styles and to create brand new unique designs.

On our website, we have a selection of small finger size engagement rings online, available to browse or contact us for a bespoke ring, made-to-measure for your exact size.

How do you ensure the correct finger size?

To ensure the correct size, some clients visit our showroom for in-depth personal guidance and to be sized professionally. However, not all clients visit us. For this reason, we introduced the perfect size service to send size samples to clients in a spread of sizes based on their approximate measurement.
