Where to study nutrition abroad
Nutrition programs are offered all over the world, so you’ll have plenty of choice when it comes to deciding where to study. To help you make the right decision, think about:
- Where you want to live
Consider things like the language, culture and climate when deciding where to study. Also think about whether you’d prefer to live in a city, suburban or rural area.
- Where you want to work*
If you want to work after your studies, look at which countries have the best career prospects for nutrition graduates. Also look at the work visa requirements to make sure you could easily work there after graduation.
- Where has the best programs
If you want to study on a highly ranked nutrition program, base your decision on which universities have a good reputation for the subject and cover the areas that you’re interested in.
Best countries to study nutrition
There are nutrition programs available in many countries all over the world, and some of the most popular destinations also are also home to many of the best ranked programs. Australia is a great option as it has a large number of well respected nutrition courses, as does the UK and US.

- What areas of nutrition the program focuses on
- What teaching methods are used, and how the program is assessed
- What student life at the university is like, e.g. does it offer campus accommodation and student clubs and societies?
Although the reputation and quality of the program is important, it’s also worth thinking about these things when deciding which university you want to study at.

Nutrition study abroad programs
You can study nutrition abroad at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Most undergraduate nutrition degrees are offered as a BSc, but there are BA nutrition programs available.
There is little difference between the two, but a BA will usually involve fewer science based modules like chemistry or statistics. Undergraduate degrees in nutrition usually last either three or four years full time, depending on where you study.
At graduate level you can study a master’s degree in nutrition, which can last between one and two years. If you want to study a terminal degree you can study for a PhD in nutrition, provided you have already achieved a master’s. These can take at least four years to complete.
