List as many names as you can where Ernie could be a passable nickname/shortening.

Ernest is all I can think of, but Ernie is fine as a stand alone name imo

It really is, as everyone has said, a shortened version of Ernest the fastest milkman in the West
You can call anyone whatever nickname you want, from Titch to Smelly, to Sugar tit*, or Buttercup. It doesn't have to be anything to do with their name. Nicknames often come from a child's actions, or personality, or a misunderstanding or mispronunciation when they were little.
If you are asking what Ernie is shortened from, then it is Ernest.

The Fastest Milkman in the West.
Bert
Seriously though....Ernie?
Give the kid a break.
HoppingPavlova · 27/05/2022 02:27
Ernest. And yes, there will either be constant milk jokes or people asking how Bert is.
