Clear 10+2
Here we will be providing you with a number of steps to know how to become a fashion designer. In order to become a fashion designer one must complete his or her 10+2 with minimum 50 per cent marks. One must complete his 10+2 from any stream. We will discuss some fashion designer course in this section.
Entrance Exams
In this section we have discussed all the steps to know how to become a fashion designer. Several colleges conduct entrance exams before taking student admission. In order to be eligible to sit for the entrance exam, students must complete their 10+2 with a minimum of 50 per cent marks. One can sit for the NIFT entrance in order to get into a NIFT college.
The entrance examinations are listed below:
AIEED : ARCH College of Design and Business conducts All India Entrance Examination for undergraduate and postgraduate admission in fashion design. AIEED consists of three stages: General Aptitude Test (GAT), Creative Aptitude Test (CAT) and Video, Portfolio and Personal Interaction with the panel.
SEED : Symbiosis International University (SIU) conducts SEED for various design courses including B.Des. This examination comprises objective type questions.
UCEED : UCEED is Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design, conducted by IIT Bombay. This entrance test is for admission in the undergraduate designing courses. Anant Institute of Design, UP Institute of Design, Vishwakarma University (Pune), UPES School of Design (Dehradun) and other institutes also allot some seats in their undergraduate programme for admission through UCEED.
DAT : Design Aptitude Test (DAT) exam is conducted by the National Institute of Design (NID) for B.Des. courses.
Pearl Academy Entrance Exam : This exam is also known as PAF exam. It offers admission to various design courses at Pearl Academy on different campuses.
SOFT CET: This exam is conducted by the School of Fashion Technology for admission in B.Des. programs in Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Jewelry Design, Fashion Brand Design & Technology, and other courses.
FDDI AIST : All India Selection Test (AIST) is conducted by Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI) to offer admission programmes in Footwear Design, Leather Goods & Accessory Design, Fashion Design and Retail & Fashion Merchandise.
IICD Exam : Indian Institute of Crafts and Design Entrance Test exam is conducted by the Indian Institute of Crafts and Design in various B.Des. and M.Des. programmes.
Some universities and colleges consider rank acquired in the NIFT entrance exam and GATE score for providing admissions. A strong portfolio and also experience in the field of designing bring opportunities in this career. To start a career in fashion designing students need to do an internship in any fashion house.

B.A. Fashion Designing: This is a three-year course. It provides the student with important learnings and skills in the field of fashion designing.
B.Sc. Fashion Designing: Bachelors of Science in fashion designing is a three-year-long undergraduate programme. For pursuing this programme one must have opted for the science stream in their 10+2.
Post-Bachelors
Once the bachelor's degree is completed the student has two options:
Option 1: He or she can begin working in the field of fashion designing. The candidate can begin working for a fashion label or start practising under a fashion designer in the beginning.
Option 2: The candidate can go for his or her masters in fashion designing. If the student wants to specialise in fashion designing he or she can go for a master's degree.
