Council bidding 'open' (1)

Hi there

I've been bidding on bigger council houses and so far have been largely unsuccessful. My first bid, which was probably made several weeks ago, I've noticed that the status of the bid is 'open' whereas all my other bids state 'unsuccessful.' Does anyone have a clue what 'open' means? My position for this particular bid is 225 so I'm not trying to get my hopes up

Thanks

It means nobody else has accepted the property yet so you might get offered it x

Thank you for replying Rachael. I hope I get offered it because having three kids (pregnant with fourth) in a two bedroom flat isn't ideal. But what are my chances as I am 225th in the line at the moment x

Yeah. It means nobody else has accepted it yet. However, the other 224 people ahead of you would all have to declined for you to be offered it. It's not going to happen.

In my area overcrowding by one bedroom has a waiting time of about 5 years, if at all. It is usually better to go on "homeswapper" and look got someone seeking to downsize and do a mutual exchange.

They only take into consideration the top 5/10 bids , then it will show as open as a short list is made then it's whittled down 1-5 and then the property is given to the person who most needs it or who has been told they can view to accept, the fact your 225th I don't think you will stand a chance no offence as it can take years to even get down to 50-100, I know a women who's waited four years to get down to position 20.x

Actually I think it's worse to get your hopes up! Better to be realistic. Top 5 and you're in with a chance, maybe even top 10. Higher than that and you have to accept you've got no chance.

Definitely try exchanging. Loads of people are downsizing now due to the "bedroom tax" so there's a good chance you can swap your two bed for a 3 bed.

Can't find your answer?
