NSLS Membership Experience | Build Skills & Accomplish Goals (2024)

Leadership Development

THE STEPS TO INDUCTION

As a member of the NSLS, your learning starts with our five-step leadership development program to complete your Steps to Induction.

Orientation is the first event on campus for new members. During orientation you’ll get a chance to meet other members, learn the steps you need to take to complete the program, and review the schedule of events for the semester. You’ll also take a DiSC personality assessment where you will learn more about yourself and how to communicate effectively with others so you can achieve better outcomes.

On leadership training day, you will attend an interactive video training session where you'll identify goals and work on a plan of action to achieve them. During this session, you’ll learn various leadership skills, recognize your strengths and weaknesses, and create a path for overcoming obstacles.

Live-streamed and pre-recorded Speaker Broadcasts are where you get to interact with and learn from business leaders, celebrities, activists, best-selling authors, and more. Hosted six times per year, topics include leadership fundamentals, identifying goals, facing challenges, personal growth, and successfully transitioning from college to career. You’ll also get a chance to interact with the speakers through Twitter and Facebook during each broadcast.

As a member, you’ll meet bi-weekly in small groups to gain insights and perspectives in an environment that enables you to fast-track success. In these meetings, you will have a network to help you achieve your goals, hold each other accountable by setting timelines and expectations, and reflect on your work by keeping a journal of your progress.

Induction is where you’ll officially celebrate your success in completing all of the Steps to Induction. A ceremony may be held where you will stand proudly with administrators and be presented with a Certificate of Leadership Training honoring your achievement and membership in the NSLS.
